Most 35Ms I know also haven't, but that's not the point of their MOS and most have at least done something noteworthy, deployed or not, within their first assignment, provided they aren't a shitbag, broken, or stuck in a shop. Most 35Ps I know haven't used their languages operationally, which is their primary function. Yeah, but wtf is your average 10 level 35M? There's just too much diversity of assignments, though perhaps the most common is going to be under FORSCOM, in a MICO or a MI BDE, and your life there is going to usually be mediocre with exceptions, but the exact same applies to 35Ps who face even more severe career mismanagement, so I don't know how you honestly compare. That said, HUMINT strategic debriefing positions are usually hella cool and in cool locations from what I've heard. If you want to do cool intel shit like you probably joined the Army to do, nothing wrong with 35M or 35P, but you need to try to work your way into SOF if you want to get some no-shit experience. or join a better branch like the Air Force. If you're intel and want to do strategic stateside cubicle stuff, sure avoid HUMINT and pray for an INSCOM unit. And having also done the 35P job, you may be more operationally involved while stateside, but even that is typically boring and you end up facing the same issues 35Ms have in garrison FORSCOM units, where you get little to zero operational experience, are treated as a less qualified 35N for training purposes (sometimes deployed as well realistically), and deployments are few and far between. There are still cool things to be done for 35Ms that are shit hot and drop applications, but until another major conflict, there is only so much war to go around, and that applies to just about everyone in the Army. There are certain HT-JCOE courses that can absolutely set a soldier up to transition to agencies. It isn't actually hard to land contracting or other positions for 35Ms, especially with a language. If you get a dud first assignment, it's not difficult to land a more operationally involved second assignment. So this is regurgitating some popular opinions that aren't really accurate.ģ5Ms absolutely do their job, just not always in garrison, especially if you're stuck in some BS MICO in FORSCOM.
